Kinship youth Mentoring
Below is a list of the sponsors of the Cook-off.
Kinship’s annual fundraiser, "The Soup & Chili Cook-Off" will be back at the Falls Ballroom on the last Tuesday in March. "What is the Cook-off," you ask? The Cook-off is first and foremost an opportunity to showcase the Kinship youth mentoring program and to present the real need for people to step forward to become role models & mentors for young people who are growing up in a home without both parents. In addition, it is Kinship's largest annual fundraiser.
Area restaurants, businesses, groups & individuals register to enter a soup or chili (or both) in the competition. Many cookers come every year, regardless of if they win or not. Most years we welcome at least one greenhorn (who will often end up winning!) The Cook-off draws a big crowd of folks who want to sample these soups & chilis. Part of their "job" is to vote on their favorite soup & chilii - which we call the "People's Choice." It is fun to see some people take their sampling and voting so seriously, while some people just like to taste it all and voting is like an afterthought.
Sampling & voting is a big part of the Cook-off, but not everything. The family-friendly evening is a great opportunity to enjoy fellowship with family, friends and co-workers; to enjoy great bluegrass music from members of the Mosquito Creek band and to support Kinship through your ticket purchase, raffles & a silent auction.
